Becoming successful requires hard work and perseverance. We all know this, but the truth is that it takes more than just a great idea, hard work, and persistence to be successful. There are certain characteristics or habits of successful people that set them apart from the rest.

How many people do you know that work their butt off every day and are determined to make a better life for themselves; only to stay stuck in the same rut year after year? Maybe that person is you.

There are certain habits that successful people have that set them apart from others.  It may not be that they are working harder or are luckier than you, but they possess these habits that set them up for success.

So what does being successful mean?

What Is The Definition of Success

So, what does it mean to be successful? The definition of success is “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose”. In other words, the definition of success is whatever you consider it to be.

Maybe it means that you are making $500,000 a year. How about becoming the CEO of a company? Or what about graduating at the top of your class?

The answer is yes to all those questions, but only if those things are what you are aiming to accomplish. You see, becoming successful is a matter of opinion.

If you are striving to retire by 30, then that’s your definition of success. If it’s to build a thriving business, then that’s your definition. It could even be as simple as losing 50 pounds if that is what you are aiming for.

Whatever your definition of success is, there are habits that you need to adopt in your life that’ll help you reach your goals.

5 Powerful Habits of Successful People

Become a Goal Setter

Highly successful people set goals and visions for success on a regular basis. They have a clear picture of what they want and how they plan on making it happen. They not only set goals regularly, but they also write them down and map out how they plan on achieving those goals.

Goal setting is a very powerful habit that you need to adapt to. Check out this study that was done on some Harvard students to see the real power of goal setting.  This is a real eye-opener on the power of goal setting.

You need to set your goal in stone (so to speak). Sit down with a piece of paper and pen and write down your goals. Break them down into shorter-term goals and how you plan to achieve them. This is your roadmap to success.

Successful People Read A lot

The most successful people read a lot, but it’s not for pleasure.  They don’t spend their time reading fiction, their time reading is spent educating themselves.

Successful people are always looking to learn more all the time and improve themselves. They spend a lot of time reading about different self-improvement topics and are continually educating themselves.

Knowledge is power, so take some time out of every day to read and learn as much as you can on whatever topic you are striving to accomplish.

Take Well Calculated Risks

Many of us take risks every now and then, why not, there’s a 50/50 chance that we will come out on top. Well, that’s not how successful people think about it.

Although successful people will take risks, the risks they take are well calculated.  They weigh all the possible outcomes of their decisions and know exactly what they stand to gain if things work out.

They also know exactly what they have to lose by taking a risk. They also have a plan to minimize the fallout if things don’t pan out.

Don’t be afraid to try new things just because you are scared of the outcome. Instead of taking a risk and hoping things work out, make a plan. How will each possible outcome affect your success? Make a backup plan to minimize an unwanted outcome.

Network With Success

Successful people know that in order to reach their goals, they must surround themselves with like-minded people.

They realize the importance of being around other successful individuals who they can learn from and who understand what it takes to reach their goals.

Talk to successful people who are where you want to be. Get their opinions and thoughts and learn as much as you can from them. You might even open up opportunities for yourself by sharing your vision.

Wake Up Early To Get More Done

They are up and ready to deal with whatever may come their way. Waking up early also enables them to have more time in their day get things accomplished.

Start waking up a little bit earlier so you can complete a few extra tasks every day. You will be surprised at how much more you can accomplish in the morning when your mind is fresh and without interruptions.

Have Confidence

Successful people didn’t get where they are by being timid or sounding uncertain. They are confident in themselves and what they stand for.

They have conviction in what they are working toward is so powerful that it’s easy to draw people in. Those people
