Dry skin can be a real pain, especially in the wintertime with dry cold air. It seems like no matter how much you moisturize the dry itchy skin doesn’t go away. 

There are many lotions and moisturizers out there. There are aisles full of different types of moisturizers at your local drugstore but they come with a big price tag.  These natural homemade dry skin remedies are natural, nourishing and effective. And they are also gentle on your wallet.

DIY Homemade Dry Skin Remedies

Brown Sugar Olive Oil Scrub

Olive oil contains many antioxidants and healthy fatty acids are good for your skin.  The brown sugar helps to exfoliate and remove dry dead skin cells.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 Tablespoons fine brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon honey

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together. Rub the scrub on your dry skin in a circular motion for a few minutes. Apply a light moisturizer after you shower.

Coconut Shea Body Butter

This coconut shea body butter recipe is so simple to make and will keep your skin soft and moisturized all day long.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup shea butter
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 10 drops of your favorite essential oil

Instructions:

Combine all ingredients and heat in a small saucepan or double boiler on medium until all ingredients are melted. Pour in a mixing bowl, let cool until it starts to solidify a bit around the edges. Whip with a hand mixer until it looks like frothy whipped cream. Use this daily for soft moisturized skin.

Yogurt Papaya Smoothie

Yogurt is an excellent skin-hydrating agent and its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties will help soothe dry and itchy skin.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons mashed papaya
  • 2 drops lemon juice
  • 2 drops honey


Directions:

Mix one-half cup of yogurt and three tablespoons of mashed or blended papaya. Stir in a few drops each of honey and lemon juice. Apply it on your skin and leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it off with cold water.

Coconut Oil Body Moisturizer

Coconut Oil is awesome for treating dry skin as well as your hair. It also has fatty acids that help retain moisture in your skin which is why it works so well.

Directions

Apply coconut oil all over after you take a shower or bath to lock in moisture when your sink readily absorbs it.  Do this daily for soft, moisturized skin.

Rose Water Milk Rub

Milk has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that greatly help get rid of dry and itchy skin. The lactic acid in milk exfoliates dead skin cells and increases the skin’s ability to retain moisture.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 2 – 3 drops rose water

Directions:

Mix ingredients together and rub this solution all over your body. Leave it on for 10 minutes and wash your body with cold water.
