How Selling on Amazon Works

Selling products on Amazon is an easy way to reach millions of potential customers worldwide. Whether you want to earn extra income or make a living, Amazon provides you with the required tools to start selling online fast.

If you want to start selling on Amazon, you’ll first need to register on Amazon and create a seller account.

Choose a Selling Plan

Before you register, decide what you want to sell and then choose a selling plan. You can sell as either a Professional Seller or sell as an Individual Seller.

All sellers can list products in more than 20 categories, but Professional Sellers can apply to sell in at least 10 additional categories.

If you plan on selling more then 40 items a month, then choosing the professional selling plan is your best option to save money on fees. The charge for a professional plan is $39.99 a month with no per item fee.

When selling on an Individual plan, you are charged a $1 per item fee everytime you sell a product via Amazon FBA. So let’s say you sell 100 items, the per item fee would be $100 as opposed to $39.99 with a professional plan, making the per item charge only 40 cents per item. The more you sell, the less per item fee you are charged.

If you are just wanting to test the waters selling on Amazon, then you can start off with an individual plan. Then if you decide that you want to upgrade, you can switch over to a professional plan really easy so don’t stress too much about which plan you choose in the beginning.

Getting Started Selling On Amazon

Once you have decided what you want to sell and you have chosen a selling plan, then need to register your own selling account. Then you simply upload your listings to your chosen marketplace(s) such as Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.de. You can list products already on Amazon.com or list products not yet listed.

When listing your products, you have the option to Fulfilled by Merchant or Fulfilled by Amazon fulfillment method. If you choose Fulfilled by Merchant fulfillment method, you will handle shipping yourself. If you select Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) fulfillment method, Amazon does the shipping for your products.

I recommend using FBA. First of all, you don’t have to store any merchandise at your home, saving you space. You simply ship your merchandise off to an FBA warehouse. When your items sell, Amazon ships your products from their warehouse saving you the hassle of packaging and shipping items yourself.

Amazon notifies you when an order has been placed for one of your products. If you choose FBA, there is nothing that you need to do, Amazon takes care of everything. If you choose Fulfilled by Merchant, you will need to package your product, print shipping labels and bring your packages to either USPS, UPS or FedEx to have them shipped off.

  • Register for a selling account

  • Customers can see your products and buy them
