Laundry is one of those never-ending chores that we must do. It is usually built right into our weekly schedules and when our laundry days roll around, we just do it to get it done.

For instance, I know that I will be spending every Saturday morning doing three to four loads of laundry trying to get it all done and over with. Then midweek having to do another couple of loads to keep the hampers from overflowing until next Saturday.

Even though laundry is a chore nobody likes to do, there are some hacks that we can incorporate to save time, money and make it a bit easier. I’ve put together a list of 12 laundry hacks that will help you do just that.

12 Laundry Hacks To Save Time & Money

Keep Colors Bright

Add ½ cup of salt to your wash cycle to help brighten fading colors on clothing that is starting to fade. This will also help to preserve new clothing from fading so they last longer and look better.

Dryer Sheets

Ditch the dryer sheets to save money. Simply ball a piece of tin foil up and throw it in your dryer. This will help your clothes dry just as well as dryer sheets and prevent static cling. Plus you can use one ball for up to six months to save you some money too. You can also learn how to make your own natural dryer sheets here to save money.

Prevent Creases

If you hang your slacks on hangers right out of the dryer, you are sure to have creases across the middle. You can prevent this by padding the bottom of your hangers with a section of a pool noodle. Simply cut to the desired length, then make a slice along one side down to the middle hole and wrap the foam along the bottom of your hanger.

Sweat Stains

Sweat stains are totally embarrassing. Get rid of sweat stains by mixing 1 teaspoon of Dawn dish soap with 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Scrub this into the sweat-stained area of your clothing using a brush. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes, then wash as usual.

Quick Wrinkle Remover

No time to take out the bulky ironing board and iron? Use your flat iron to straighten minor wrinkling from clothing. This works especially good on those unruly collars that keep curling at the ends and it’s a great trick when you are in a rush, you can do your hair and look sharp all at the same time.

Greasy Stains

Who doesn’t dread those little grease stains that splatter your clothing while cooking? You can easily get rid of these stains with a piece of chalk. Simply rub the chalk over the grease stains on both sides of the garment. Let it sit for a few hours to allow the chalk to absorb the grease, scrap the excess chalk off then wash as usual.

Reverse Shrinkage

Oops, you accidentally threw a shirt in the dryer that you did not intend to. You can reverse the damage instead of adding your shrunken clothing to your thrift shop donation box. Simply fill a sink or bucket with warm water and add in some hair conditioner.  Soak your shirt in this mixture for 20 minutes then wring out the excess water and place on a towel while gently stretching it back to its original shape.

No Time for Ironing

If you are in a hurry and do not have time to iron your wrinkled outfit. You can simply throw it in the dryer with a few pieces of ice cubes. The ice will melt and dampen your clothing just enough to remove those unsightly wrinkles in no time.

Easily Remove Pilling

Tired of plucking those little fuzz balls off your clothing? You can easily remove pilling on your clothing by simply shaving them off. Grab a clean razor and run it over your clothing while being careful not to use too much pressure to avoid nicking the fabric.
