Laundry is a chore that nobody likes to do. Every week we haul our dirty close to the laundry room and spend hours washing, drying, ironing, hanging and folding. But it is something we all must do. Not only is it time-consuming, but it’s also quite expensive. 

There are so many laundry products on the store shelves these days and the companies lead you to believe that you need to use them all if you want to have clean, bright and great smelling clothing. This is simply a sales tactic to make you spend more than you need to.  

You don’t need all these fancy products to clean your clothes. If you are looking for a healthier and cheaper option for doing laundry? You should consider making your own DIY laundry detergent.  This recipe doesn’t contain all the harsh ingredients that are in store-bought detergents that might irritate your skin.  

Plus making your own DIY laundry detergent is so easy and will save you tons of money every year. So why not give it a try?  You have nothing to lose!

This recipe is for a 72 load batch of powdered laundry detergent. You can double or triple this recipe if you like to make larger batches to save on time if you prefer.

How to Make DIY Laundry Detergent

Ingredients:

• 6 cups Borax
• 4 cups washing soda any brand – doesn’t need to be arm and hammer
• 4 cups grated bar soap of your choice

Directions:

1. Grate your bar soap
2. Combine all ingredients in a large container or bucket add a few ingredients at a time to make it easier to blend.
3. Store in an airtight covered container.
4. Use 1/8 cup per load or more for larger or soiled loads of laundry.
