Easy Ways to Save on Makeup and Toiletries

Have you ever gone to the drugstore for four or five items and gotten to the cash register to realize those few items cost you $50 to $60 or more? It’s kind of crazy to think we spend so much money on just a few items that we just can’t seem to live without.

This can take a big dent in your wallet. But the good news is that there are some strategies that you can use to save a ton at the drugstore. Here are some of my favorite tips of easy ways to save money on makeup and toiletries.

Sign up for loyalty programs

Sign up for the loyalty program at the drugstores you frequent often if you haven’t already. Most stores will not even give you the sale price on items if you are not part of their loyalty program. Plus, you’ll be on their mailing list so you will be sent coupons and special offers that will help you save even more.

Use coupons

I know not everybody is a fan of couponing, but you don’t need to go nuts by buying a stack of weekend papers and spending hours clipping coupons. There are a lot of websites out there that list the coupons that will be in the weekend paper. Scan the list of coupons before to make sure it is worth buying the paper and that it is worth the effort.

Get the apps

There are a lot of apps out there that you can use that will reward you for purchasing certain items. All you have to do is activate whichever offers you know you will use and you will get money deposited into your account when you purchase the items. Some of my favorite are Savingstar, Ibotta, Checkout 51 among others. I wrote a post on my top 10 money-saving apps here.

You can truly save a pile of money when you combining sale items, loyalty rewards, apps, and coupons together. I’ve even gotten quite a bit of stuff for free or even make money on some purchases by using this strategy.

Try less expensive brands

This might be a no-brainer but there are a lot of people out there that will only buy one brand of a certain item. These days there are so many different brands and products out there. How do you know a less expensive brand won’t cut it if you never tried it? Try it on one product at a time, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Use every last bit

You know how it goes, you are running low on a certain product and your run out to the store before you are out. Then when you get home you start using the new bottle of whatever and throw out the almost empty one. The key word here is almost empty, you probably could get another six or seven uses out of that bottle you just threw out. Use every last bit, if you do this with all products you could really save a lot in the long run.

Buy in bulk

Buying items in bulk or buying the larger family sized will save on makeup and toiletries as long as you know you will use it before it expires. Every time you buy an item, you are also paying for the packaging. By buying larger sizes you are paying for less plastic and cardboard and more product.

Use Less

Use less product than you see in the ads. Seriously have you seen those ads for toothpaste where they load the toothbrush up with a big glob of toothpaste? I would totally gag with all those suds building up in my mouth. Advertisements are designed to make you use more of a product than you actually need. The more you use, the more you buy, Right?

Make your own

Why not try making your own all-natural products to save on makeup and toiletries. There are tons of DIY products you can make at home that are all natural, better, and way cheaper than buying a high-priced product at the drugstore. Take advantage of holiday gift sets

Holiday gift sets are a great way to save on some of your favorite brands. They cost a fraction of the price than if you bought each product individually. Better yet, these gift sets go on sale for 50% – 75% off usually the day after the holiday has passed, which is a great time to stock up on the cheap.

Brand loyalty programs

In addition to your drugstore’s loyalty programs, search for loyalty programs for some of your favorite brands. Many have programs that will reward you for being a loyal customer by sending you coupons, special offers, rebates, and samples of new products.
